The story.
Reverend Mike and Danno—both of whom are studio-tanned, tour-seasoned, lifelong professional musicians—crossed guitar cables on stage as a result of being tapped to back up a singer in need of sidemen.
They played the gig, shook hands, and that was that…until Danno got a call from Reverend Mike a couple weeks later:
I have this idea….
Surf-spaghetti-western-jangle-pop-garage…clean guitars…
Driving bass…pulsating drums…infectiously danceable…
Originals…I can write…
Maybe throw in an original cover…
Early – mid ’60s…beach…cars…rockets…reverb…
That groove…
That vibe…
If Quentin Tarantino had a band.…
We’ll be…The Velouras.

Home: Pffft. Like you’re coming over.
Years playing: All but the first eight.
Experience: Great teacher. Tough but fair.
Musical philosophy: If you can’t play it clean, you can’t play it.
Material: My own. It keeps the alphabets at bay.
Influences: Mostly positive.
Favorite instrument: The ’61 Strat my wife wears on her ring finger.
Favorite guitarist: Ruiko, Shigeo Naka, Dick Dale are why I practice.
Favorite band: Surf Coasters vs The WHYs in the Octagon winner.
Favorite song: “Phantom Mustang” by the Intoxicators (with Noel S).
Why Surf? Can’t walk on water, don’t like swimming or drowning.
–
Home: I might go down to Mexico for a week after Thanksgiving.
Years playing: Continually in bar bands from high school on.
Experience: Hitchhiked to New Orleans and back.
Musical philosophy: “This seems like a good job.”
Material: Is there a statue of limitations on copyright infringement?
Influences: My five-weeks-plus cross country motorcycle ride.
Favorite instrument: Have you seen my bass?
Favorite bassist: Sam Clemens.
Favorite band: VHF. I was a regular on Channel 6 in the 90s.
Favorite song: The Twains’ “Eschew Surplusage.” Great tune.
Why Surf? I drive a capped pickup with shag carpeting in the back.

It’s a machine, not a person.
Also, Soviet-era Russian milsurp.)
